In December, the members celebrated the Annual Scholarship Awards. Mr Gordon Oliver, along with the Association President, Mrs Sylvia Rew, Mr John Cowie, past Chairman of the Association and Mrs Helen Marshall Head of Catering and Hospitality at South Devon College, took part in presenting the winning students with their Awards as follows.
Paul Scholarship Award - An Award made to the most promising young manager following the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at South Devon College. Set up in memory of Mr Paul, a gentleman who put so much back into the industry and was Chairman of our Association in 1952. The funding of this award is taken from the existiong trust fund made up of Charity bonds and presented in the name of Mr Paul by the Torbay Hospitality Association. The Award of approximately £500 is used by the students to further their studies.
THIS YEAR - The Paul Scholarship Award was awarded to student Nathan Hole.
Michael Chapman Award - This Award commenced in 1999 to honour Michael Chapman who was Chairman of the Association in 1946 and 1960 and President of the Association from 1976 to 1996 and is given to the most progressed NVQ level 3 craft student at South Devon College. The Award consists of a cheque for approximately £400.
THIS YEAR - The Michael Chapman Award was awarded to Callum Williams.
TORBAY HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION AWARD
This award is given to the First Year Craft student demonstrationg outstanding personal motivation and commitment to their course at South Devon College. The Award of approximately £250 is presented at our AGM by the current Chairman of the Torbay Hospitality Association.
THIS YEAR - The Torbay Hospitality Association Award was awarded to student Josh Randall.
